Background & Qualifications

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor committed to supporting my clients with compassion, professionalism, and a diverse range of therapeutic approaches. My background includes work across a broad spectrum of mental health settings, enabling me to offer holistic and well-informed support.

Professional Experience

  • Women's Mental Health Charity:
Supported women at weekly drop-in facilities through assessment and ongoing support, and provided mental health care at three female secure units.

  • Children’s Bereavement Support:
Worked with a children’s charity in the North West of England, helping children cope with loss—whether the death of a parent, relative, or friend, including supporting children when parents experienced pregnancy loss.

  • Family Support Work:
Functioned as a family support worker for a national charity, assisting families and single parents in their homes facing issues like mental health challenges, addiction, loneliness, financial hardship, and resettlement.

  • Health & Mental Health Organisations:
Delivered counselling for adults with diverse presenting issues, including borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, abuse (domestic, sexual, emotional), trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and identity issues, bereavement, ongoing health concerns, and bullying (in person and social media).

  • Oncology Counselling:
Most recently, I worked in a Cancer Unit in the North West, providing counselling to patients diagnosed with cancer at all stages—from initial diagnosis, through treatment and recovery, to palliative and end-of-life care. I also supported carers and those bereaved by cancer.

  • Private Practice

As my practice has grown, I have become increasingly specialized in supporting individuals within the creative and performing arts fields. Many of my clients are writers, performers, musicians, artists, and holistic practitioners—many working in the public eye or navigating the unique pressures of their professions. This experience has enriched my understanding of the specific challenges faced by those in creative industries, such as high visibility, demanding schedules, and the emotional toll of public performance. I am dedicated to providing a safe, confidential space where creatives can explore their stories, find resilience, and reconnect with their authentic selves. My work with this community is driven by a genuine passion for supporting the well-being of those whose artistry brings so much to the world.

Where appropriate I am able to incorporate Bibliotherapy—using carefully selected books and reading materials—as a supportive tool to promote insight, healing, and self-awareness. This approach can complement talk therapy and provide comfort and understanding between sessions. What is Bibliotherapy?
